I had this beer recommended to me by a friend a couple of months ago - it was most likely around the very start of the COVID-19 lockdown. This is probably why it had taken me so long to try this thick-looking, son of a can and (having finally been lucky enough to try it) I feel like I missed out on a lot of joyous moments. Brewed by the infamous Northern Monk, this is (in their own words) a tropical take on their New World IPA.
The Tropical World IPA is pure summer in a can. It is SUPERB. when you first crack open the can, an ensemble of tropical and citrusy aromas, which really adds to the excitement of drinking it. Pouring it out you can literally see and feel how thick and creamy this beer really is - exactly as you would expect a fruit smoothie to look like. I feel like they must have used a lot of lactose during the brewing process to achieve that thick, smoothie-like mouthfeel. It is delicious and makes this beer super, SUPER refreshing.
Taste-wise, it is every bit as tropical and fruity as you would hope... and then some! It is deliciously hopped with citra, which in itself makes this beer fruity as! It then must have been fermented with ridiculous (I use this word in the best possible way) of tropical fruit. There is mango, pineapple and passion fruit all rolled into one giant FRUIT BOMB!
This beer will take you to warmer climates, during a time where we could ALL do with getting away from it all. Expect exotic, tropical flavour for days when you taste this beer.
There isn't really much to say about the can of the Tropical World IPA... the beer does do all the talking. Northern Monk cans or bottles are usually quite same-y.
That said, the colours do really pop out - the gold and shade of blue allow this beer to stand out - which is increasingly important as the shelves are forever stacked with tonnes and tonnes of appealing craft been can designs.
When you have a beer as tasty as this one, a great can design isn't the be all and end all.
