These days having a substantial meal is the only way to get a drink outside of the home, luckily for us Triple Point Brewery have a sense of humour and have brewed this delightful hazy session IPA to help us through these troubled times.
Their sense of humour is nothing compared to their charity though, and Substantial Meal, while being a play on words about the lockdown restrictions, is brewed to help those in food poverty during the covid-19 crisis.
For every can sold, £1 is being donated by Triple Point to the Work for Good charity to combat food poverty. All the more reason to have a substantial meal or two!
There’s a definite tropical fruity smell to this one as soon as the can’s opened, which is followed by a hazy pour that creates a thick, creamy head full of those same fruity aromas.
Then flavour is bitter at first, and while that bitterness lasts right the way through the beer it fades and is joined by more of those tropical citrus flavours.
The aftertaste keeps a lot of the fruit, but balances it well with the bitterness brought by the 4 hop varities to make it very drinkable: perfect for a session IPA.
A black can with green writing. Nothing too special, but the focus is all on the name, which is after all the whole point of the beer. The name should be the only thing you focus on as that’s the joke.
It’s written in a handwriting style around the can, and again underneath with the strength and style to help guide those browsing. It’s a can that doesn’t need to work hard to have an impact.
You’ll have to do what we did and go to Triple Point’s site directly if you want to get your hands on this one. It’s £3.40 for a single can but, as with most breweries, the more you buy the cheaper they are per can.
And with money going to charity for each can, you should really do your part and order a bunch of them.
