Rhubarbra Streisand Review

Rhubard and custards were one of my favourite childhood sweets and I’m not going to lie, when I found this from Brew York I was sceptical of how good it could be.

I didn’t want to expect too much from it by comparing it to one of my favourite sweets, but that’s exactly what the guys at Brew York claim it is - basically rhubarb and custard in a can.

But you know, beer.

Rhubarbra Streisand can and pour

Turns out, this comparison is spot on. It didn’t just meet my expectations, it took me on a nostalgia trip back to Sal’s sweet shop just off the local field near where I grew up.

Rhubarbra Streisand: Taste Test

The immediate aroma is of ginger, but that’s quickly replaced by a sickly-sweetness that is similar to the scent of a sweet shop. Or maybe that’s just me.

It pours orange with a touch of pink to it and as you pour it out those sweet and fiery aromas really make themselves known.

On the tongue it has a creamy smoothness that combines delightfully with the tartness of the rhubarb, which manages to cut through the richness to create a balance of flavour that works very well indeed.

The aftertaste sees the sweetness subside and the ginger kicks in again, leaving you with a fiery sensation in the back of the throat and a desire to drink more and more.

Rhubarbra Streisand: Can Notes

As with all Brew York cans, Rhubarbra Streisand is a beautifully designed chunk of can.

Featuring the namesake herself in profile on one side in white and pink tones, with pieces of bright red rhubarb and splashes of yellow custard featuring on a can filled with sparkle and stripe.

The colour tones are perfectly mimicking what this beer is about, using yellows, pinks, greens and whites to great effect.

Buy Rhubarbra Streisand Milkshake Pale

We got ours from our local bottle shop, Beer Central (hence the glass), but you can experience this blast from the past by going to Brew York’s web shop or Beer Hawk, where it’s £4.19 a can.
